Voglesong COLORef CRM for Instrument Verification

The Voglesong COLORef. A durable, uniform, stable target CRM (Color Reference Material) for instrument verification. Compliant with ISO 15790-2004. NIST-traceable. Re-Measurable. Minimum 1 required with Measurewatch: $300.00 $150.00

Why do I need a Color Reference?

With the widespread use of spectrophotometers in the graphic arts, and the exchange of colorimetric and spectral data, it is more important than ever to validate the performance of your spectrophotometers. Don't let your device be the weak link in your measurements. Verifying the accuracy of your device allows you to have confidence in your measurements. Verifying also allows you to determine when to re-certify or retire your device.

What is the Vogelsong COLORef®?

The Voglesong COLORef®, is a CRM (Color Reference Material) compliant with ISO 15790-2004. It is a durable, uniform, stable CRM, which offers the same characteristics of the BCRA Ceramic Tile Set, as a calibration standard, but at MUCH lower cost and at a more convenient size. COLORef® is excellent for spot or process colors because it has dense pigment behind an optical substrate, making it BCRA tile-like. Plus, it has 16 mm size patches and will work nicely with larger apertures.

The beauty of the Voglesong COLORef® is that it provides a NIST-traceable, durable CRM, which can be read by scanning, strip-reading and hand-held spectrophotometers, affording a single solution to gauge the performance of all the instruments in your laboratory.

Add COLORef to Maxwell MeasureWatch for a paired bundle and get the perfect functional combination!

Who is Bill Voglesong?

Bill Voglesong was a Metrologist Extraordinair with undergraduate degrees in Physics and Mathematics, and graduate degree in Spectroscopy. Bill Voglesong was well equipped to pursue a career in the Color Technology Division of Eastman Kodak Company, where he established and led the Physical Standards and Measurements Laboratory. Under Bill's direction, the Lab became a pioneer in the development of computerized measurement equipment.

Upon his retirement, Bill established a standards laboratory, PSI Associates, which undertook certification of color standards and reference materials, notably the T-Ref, for GCA (Now Idealliance). Bill was also on the faculty of RIT, teaching color theory and processes. Bill served on many standards committees, for ANSI, NAPM, ISO, CGATS, among others, and participated in the quest for a 'perfect white' reference material.

While serving as the QC auditor for Colortron, a spectrophotometer developed by Lucid, Inc., Bill joined Lucid as a consultant in Color Metrology, while maintaining his standards business. Bill was the metrology consultant on the staff, along with optical and materials engineers, which developed the Voglesong COLORef®. Upon Bill's death, in 1999, Bill's endeavors were undertaken by his esteemed colleague, Robert Hutchison. With Bill's inspiration, Hutchison founded In T'Hutch Ltd., to carry on Voglesong's work in standards and color metrology.

COLORef CRM ReCal+Certification

The COLORef CRM ReCal+Certification service from CHROMiX is available as needed to Re-Calbrate and Re-Certify your Vogelsong COLORef target. Although the COLORef is of high quality, usage and environmentals (air, dust, pollution, etc.) can wear the target, cause drift and affect it's performance. Simply send it to CHROMiX and we'll measure it and update you with the newest reference information. Customer pays shipping to and from CHROMiX. For more information contact CHROMiX Sales//chromix//com or call (206) 985-6837 Ext#1.

Alternate Instrument Reference Measurement for COLORef

The COLORef includes an instrument reference measurement made by a calibrated and certified eXact. This reference data works well with instruments that bear a close alignment. However, some instruments such as the LFP-3 or LFPqb do not align optimally with that of an eXact. In these cases, it may be wise to use a reference data closer to your instrument. CHROMiX provides this service for $90 each.
